THE TEMUKA VOLUNTEERS.

You may talk about your Goldstroui Guards, Who oflen load the van ; Of your Sydney Boys, who sailed away To fight in far Soudan ; our Irish Lords, and Mulligan Guards, Who fought with wooden speaia ; But what are they, compared, I say, To the Temuka Volunteers !

We are only few in number, But that’s nothing ; if the stuff Is in this gallant little corps is I’m sure it’s quite enough. In shooting competitions We always cut a shine, And very few can make a score, Like us, along the line. If Wolseley only says the word, We're all prepared to go ; With Captain Hayhurst in the van ; We fear not any foe. Lieutenants White and Findlay Are ready for the field, And, with their brave Temuka boys, Will fight, but never yield. Why T should we not go to the front, As well as all the rest ? We know our work, can do it to, No foe we fear to breast. The ladies all admire us, We charm the little dears, They seem to be quite spoony On the Temuka Volunteers,

The annual Easter movements Were all could bo desired, And worthy Colonel Lean’s address Our little band inspired. The encouragement he gave us I’m sure wont be in vain, We’ll let him see how we’ve improved, At next Easter campaign. Should any hostile cruiser’s men At Milford try to land, They’ll get a warm reception From our gallant little band. With shot and shell we’ll scatter all Who on our shore appear. They’ll have to work if they subdue The Temuka Volunteers. Then, Long life to our noble Queen, The Empress of the Wave : And may the dear old Union Jack Above us always wave ; Aud should she want our little band We’ll cast aside all fears, And let her see how true are wd Temuka Volunteers.
