AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. TIMAKU. Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the past week ending Saturday as follows :—- Horses. —An entry of 45 head was received at their yards to-day for sale, Comprising about 20 good mares and geldings, the balance being medium draught?, hacks, and unbroken colts and fillies. A rather better demand was to-day shown for the lots offered, and though the prices were low, 25 head were disposed of at from £24 to £3l for good draughts, £l4 to £l6 for medium sorts, and from £8 to £l2 for backs. Sheep,—At their fortnightly sale held at the Washdyke Eree Yards last Tuesday another heavy supply was entered, and a considerable amount of business was done. They sold 100 crossbred ewes at 7s, 300 crossbred lambs at 7s scl, 800 merino ewes from 2s 2d to 3q 500 halfbred e" es nl 6s 9d. Privately during t|ie week they disposed of 450 ewes at a satisfactory price, Eat sheep, The supply is at present plentiful, and die prices in consequence easy ; from l|d to 2d per lb may bo quoted us their real;

value. They sold at ti e Washdyke lust Tuesday over 400 crossbred ewes and wethers at from 12s lOd to 13s. Cattle.—Good 2 and 3-year-old cat I! e are in demand, and a few small lines of these found purchasers on Tuesday last at the Washdyke Yards at from £3 7s 6d to £4 10s, cows from £2 to £3 10s, calves 15s to 20s. Fat Cattle. —They quote present values of prime beef at from 15s to 17a 6d per 1001 b. At these quotations they have placed both privately and at auction several lots. Skins, Hides, and Tallow.—Their usual fortnightly sale was held at their rooms last Wednesday. A small catalogue was booked, but all the different lots were sold at good values. Butchers' halfbred and merino skins from Is 9d to 2s sd, farmers’ lots Is lOd to 2s 3d, pelts 6d to Is 3d. Hides they have sold at from 3d to 4d per lb, according to quality, etc. Tallow from 2d t® per lb.

PRODUCE MARKETS TIMARU.

The Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operative Association report as follows ; Grain has been coming to hand freely during the past fortnight, and for the most part it is in good condition. Wheat. —The reports from the London market continue of an unsatisfactory nature, and merchants as a rule show no disposition to operate at owners ideas of value. They have placed a parcel of prime velvet 2s B£d on trucks, Tiraaru, and this may be taken as the present top value. For prime milling red chaff they quote 2s 6d, and for Tuscan, 2s 7d to 2s 8d on trucks, Timaru. Oats—Are slow in coming forward, and the values quoted in their last report have been sustained. Parcels for shipment have been enquired f or at prices ranging from ] s 4d to Is 6d for long feed and la s£d to Is 7|d for short feed and milling. Several lots have been placed during the last few days at these quotations. Barley.—No transactions can be reported. They quote for prime malting up to 3s to 3s 6d on trucks. Ryegrass.—Good machine-dressed has been placed at 3s fid on trucks.

AUSTRALIAN MARKETS.

Sydnet, April 10. New Zealand wheat has advanced to 2s fid ; Hew Zealand oats to 2s 2d. Maize has declined to 3s ; Sugar Company's No. 1 pieces remain at £26. ENGLISH MARKETS. Lonpon, April 11. The wheat market ia excited and prices are unsettled. April and May cargoes have been sold 36s 6d, and February shipments at 37s 3d. Holders, however, demand a higher price. The wool market is weaker and is especially low in greasy sorts. Since the commencement of the series 178,000 bales have been catalogued, of which number 25,000 were withdrawn.
