CRICKET.
GERALDINE F. TEMUKA.
The return match between the Geraldine and Temuka Clubs was played on the ground of the latter on Saturday, and resulted in a victory for the home team on the first innings by 56 runs. The visitors played with only seven men, and this will account for the small score made by them. The member* of the Geraldine Club seem to have Io«t all interest in cricket for this season, and it was with difficulty that any men could be got together at all. Both teams were out of practice, and Gurr, Heap and Pinckney were the only ones to get into double figures. The bowling of the brothers Fish for Geraldine was go6d, as was also that of Heap and Hayhurst for Temuka, The following are the scores : Temuka. First Innings. Second Innings. B. W. A match was played recently between a combined team of the Wairarapa district and Wellington, the former making 76 and 78, and the latter 163. F. Bethune, who is so well known down here, scored 22 and 17 for Wairarapa. “ Long Legs,” in the Canterbury Times, soys of this player “ Bethune, of Wairarapa, showed best form with the ball. This man proved the best all-round player in the team. Hia batting and bowling would have done credit to many a better eleven.” In the return match, played on Esster Monday, between the two teams, Wellington made 154 and Wairarapa 86, and 39 for four wickets, Bethune scoring 11. A costume cricket match was played in Hagley Park, Christchurch, yesterday afternoon, between jockeys and bookmakers, for the benefit of the jockey, Mitchell, who was crippled for life by an accident at the Timaru races.
