The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report as follows for the period dated the 28th March, 1885 :- Wool.—Tho season ia now practically ever, and only a fe* odd bales are coming forward for local sa'e. Shipments ar-i principally composed of scoured woo's. Wheat.—Very little damage his done to the wheat crops in this district by the late rains, farmers, iu almost every case, having put on sufficient streugfch to get the grain stacked as soon as posnible. The quantity will full short of previous years' supply. The quality, so far as c»n be judged from samples now being submitted, will be very good. In pympath/ with the English markets, 100 l quotations are low. Red Chaif may be quoted at 2s 9d, Velvet at 2s lid, and Tuscan 2s lOd, f.o.b. Oats are coming to hand slowly, and in small parcels. Tl>e quality is first-class. Quotations are, for medium to good feed la 7d to Is 9d; best feed, la lOd; and

bright, heavy milling, 1& lOd to 2s, f.o.b. Barley.- Not any of the new crop has yet reached town, but from reliable information to hand the quality will he equal to that of any previous year.

SOUTH CANTEitBUitY RAM FAIR.

Messrs Maclean and Stewart report as follows :

At the Annual Ram Fair, held on the grounds of the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association on Tuesday, a large number of long-woolled and merino rams were entered for Bale. They hav* to report the demand as rather dull and prices somewhat under expectations. There was a fair attendance of buyers during the sale. They penned for sale altogether 530 head, via. :—Border Leicester 17, English Leicestera 89, Lincolns 124, Merinos 155, Romney Marsh 33, Southdowßs 8, Shropshire Downs 4, on account of Messrs W. Grant, E. Menlove, G. G. Russell, C. N. Orbell, A. Pigeon, W. Moody, A. M. Clark, O. G. Iripp, and J. Reid. The top price realised was 7«s for a Border Leicester, 17 of which were aold at from Ifgs to Tgs. English Leicesters, they disposed of 64 head at from 4gs to sgs ; a few old culls at 10a 6d; Lincolns, 62 head found buyers at from l£gs to 3gs ; 90 merinos were disposed of privately after the sale at a fair value ; Romney Marsh rams, they placed 21 at from I£gs to 2gs ; 2 Southdown rams were sold at 4£u;s and ssgs, andl Shropshire Down at 6gs,—making a total of 257.

AUSTRALIAN MARKETS.

Melbourne, March 31.

The Melbourne Manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Limited, reports on the local markets as follows : Wheat is rather firm at 3s 9d to 3s lOd ; malting barley is dull of Bale at 4s to 4s 7d ; there is a fair demand for New Zealand oats, and prime feed are ruling at 2b 8d to 3s, and milling descriptions 3s to 3s 2d ; New Zealand oats under bond are at 2s 3d to 2s 6d ; grass seed is moderately inquired after at for ryegrass 3s 6d to 4g 4d, cocksfoot to 41.1.
