Same—Claim £9 Is 3d. —Judgment by default for amount claimed and costs. J. Drury r. J, Kennedy—Claim £8 13s 6d for wages.—Judgment for amount claimed. R, H. Pearpoint v. G. H. Thompson —Claim £3 17s 6d. A telegram was received from defendant, who is residing at Clive, near Napier, asking for an adjournment on account of illness, — Plaintiff objected to the adjournment, and the Magistrate refused to grant it as Thompson did not apply in a proper manner, and he could have applied under the i'.yidence Act to have his evidence taken where he resides,—Plaintiff, sworn, said he held a promissory note (produced) ghen by defendant, which came into bis hands in the ordinary course of business. He could swear to . Thompson’s band writing.— Judgment for amount claimed. Same v, R. Williams—Claim £5 Ss sd. Judgment summons.—After taking evidence as to the defendant’s means, his Worship made an order that half the claim be paid in one month from date and the balance in one fortnight from date of first payment. In default defendant to bo imprisoned for three weeks. R. H. Postlethwaito v. John Burke —Claim £8 12s 3d, balance of account. Dr Foster for defendant.—Plaintiff applied for an adjournment, os his solicitor Mr White, was not present.—His Worship granted an adjournment till next Court day, solicitor’s fee, £1 Is, and one witness’s fee, 10s, being allowed. R. H. Pearpoint v. W. Weston. Judgment summons.—An order had been made by the Court that the claim should be paid by instalments, but only one had been paid. A fresh order was now made that £1 be paid within four days, and the balance be paid at the rate of £1 per month. In default four weeks’ imprisonment. This being all the business, the Court then rose.
