GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The ordinary monthly meeting of thi? Committee was held in the schoolroom on Wednesday evening. Members present— Messrs N. Dunlop (Chairman), A. Sherratt, R. S. Cook, W. R. Lawson, W, H. Lodge, and Ueo. Ward, MINUTES. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. visitors’ report. Mr Lawson, on behalf of himself and Mr Farrell, the Visiting Committee, reported that they had visited the school and found everything working in a satisfactory manner. The attendance of children on the day of inspection was 186. Nothing had been done in regard to the bees in the wall of the schoolhouse. The inner walls of the rooms were in a bad state and wanted cleaning and staining. The Chairman reminded the meeting that an application had been made to the Board for a grant to repair the walls, and an answer had been received from the Board which was now read. The letter stated that the request of the Committee would be considered with similar claims shortly. The Chairman further stated that the fences were in a bad state of repair. They wanted repairing and painting. He would suggest that a SubCommittee be appointed to make an estimate of the cost of painting the fences and other necessary works, and that an additional grant for carrying out the work be asked for. Mr A, Sherratt proposed, Mr Lodge seconded, and it was carried—“ That an application be made for a grant of £25 for painting and repairing the fences.” SCHOOL PRIZES. Mr Sherratt reported on behalf of the Committee appointed to select the prizes, that a number had been obtained in Geraldine, and the balance would be obtained before the distribution, which it was proposed should take place next week. It was resolved on the motion of Messrs Lodge and Cook, that the school break up for Easter holidays on Wednesday, Ist April, the prizes to bo distributed on the evening of that day ; the school to re-assemble on Monday 13th April. It was proposed by Mr G. Ward, seconded by Mr Lodge, and carried-r- ---“ That the Oddfellows’ Hall be engaged to distribute the prizes in, and that a charge of 6d per head for adults be made.” It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Sherratt, seconded by Mr Lawson—“ That the cost of the room be defrayed out of the incidental fund.” LEAVE OF ABSENCE. Leave of absence for four months was granted to Mr Thos. Farrell, a member of the Committee. HEAD MASTER’S REPORT. The Head Master, Mr Hughes, reported for the past month, as follows : “ I have the honor to report that the average attendance for the past four weeks has been 174. “Several of the cords by which the sashes in the windows are suspended have given way and need to be renewed. At present the windows are continually in danger of being broken, through dropping suddenly. “ The plaster has again fallen near the door leading from the large schoolroom into the infant room. This time it is the wall in the infant room that has given way. The damage is not great, and there is sufficient timber left on hand to replace the fallen plaster.—l am, etc., “Thos. Hughes.” It wan resolved, on the motion of Mr Lodge, seconded by Mr Ward—“ That the repairs to the windows and plaster bo left to the Visiting Committee to see to.” visitors; The Chairman and Messrs Sherratt and Ward were appointed Visitors for the month, ACCOUNTS, Sundry small accounts to the amount of £2 16s Id were passed for payment, and the Committee adjourned.
