GRAIN MARKETS. TIMARU,
The Canterbury Farmers’ Cooperative Association report as follows :
Since the date of their last report very considerable progress has been made in harvest operations, by far the greater portion of the grain h. ing in stack, and although showery weather was experienced for a few days, no damage to speak of has been reported. Some early lots of both wheat and oats have been thrashed, and delivered into town in first-class condition. But few sales are reported, and buyers show no inclination to operate at owners’ ideas of values. reported in this cereal, buyers preferring to defer purchasing until deliveries become more general. The value of the new wheat can scarcely be said to be fixed, but they give the following present quotations :—Prime milling red, chaff, 2s 7d to 2s 8d ; Tuscan, 2s 8d ; to 2s lOd ; velvet, 2s 9d to 2s lid, with little demand, ,
Oats.—-Deliveries up to the present haTe been confined chiefly to parcels of short feed and mildng. They have placed 1400 sacks short oats at from Is 6<l to Is 9d, and 450 sacks Danish at equal to Is 6d in trucks at 1 imaru. Present values can, however, be taken at a penny under these prices, with a downward tendency.
Bariev,—A small parcel of old ing has been placed at S>, ex store, but no transactions in the new grain can be reported.
AUSTRALIA - MAKKETS. Sydney, March 20. New Zealand wh.at is quoted at 3s sd, a decline of tourpei.ee since last week’s report. New Zealand .oats .are steady at 2s 3d. Maize has declined fivepence, to 3s 6d. Sugar Company’s No. 1 pieces are unchanged at £36 per ton, t Adelaide, March 20., Wheat is quoted at 3s sd, and the market is depressed. Town flour is at £8 per ton ; country hrrnds, £7 s'.
ENGLISH MAHKBTS
London, March 20. Colonial breadstuffs —Adelaide wheat ex store has declined to 365.
The quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,760,000 quarters, an increase of’^o,ooo during tha week. Tallow—Australian, average quality beef has declined by 6d, to 31s 6d ; mutton remains at 83s, New Zealand frozen mutton of prime quality is now realising per lb, an advance of a farthing during the week.

The wool market 'ls firm, and prices obtained at the opening series have been maintained. 48,000 bales have be> n catalogued, of which 3500 were withdrawn. ;
• The New Zealand L< an and Meicantile Agency Company have received the following telegram :—London, March J 9, The wool pa esi’ programme habeen curtailed bv six days. The sale* progress firmly. Crossbreds have advanced -|d to Id per lb ; fairly scoured medium and inferior greasy and medium, inferior clothing washed have declined nearly a -|d to Id per lb ; the market for other sorts is unchanged. The p- art sales are limited to 850,000 bales, and will commence on the ilh June, "
