CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE
The Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday evening, the 20th inst.:—
The experience of the past week in the grain market has proved conclusively that the prognostications in reregard to sprouted wheat have been too amply verified. The number of samples damaged by the late rains brought in quite depress buyers, who fear to purchase for shipment, dreading the disputes and rejections certain to ensue from the foregoing cause. Other cereals, owing to earlier ripening, have scarcely suffered so much, although a large percentage has met the same fate. Altogether the prospects of farmers are not as bright in this province' as could be wished. Values to date are fairly well maintained, and the following quotations are the ruling prices : Wheat—Prime milling, 2s 6d to 2s 9d ; fowl feed. Is 9d to 2s, f.o.b. Oats—Milling, Is lid ; short feed, Is 9d to Is 10d j long oats, Is 7d to Is Bd, t.o.b. Barley—Malting, 3s fid to 4s ; feed, Is 9d to 2s, in Christchurch.
