THE TEMUKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,— The report of the School Committee meeting which appeared in your last issue, is calculated to cause considerable surprise, to say nothing of disgust. It seems that while some of the representatives of the people expressed themselves in a most questionable manner, there were others who had not sufficient mind of their own to record their votes ; and so, many of the householdeis were actually unrepresented. This is bad enough ,* but it is worse still to see that the party feeling displayed is founded upon deuominationalism. This, at least, is contrary to the spirit of the “ Education Act.” After the mating on Tuesday night, we shall not be surprised if, on a future occasion, we hear the Salvation Army movement discussed, and each member voting every church, except the one to which he belongs, to be fit only for perdition. But, worst of all I To think that men of supposed respectability, and avowed champions of a Christian church, should descend to the use of such vulgar language as that recorded in your paper, is inconceivable. Surely, sir, we are justified in expecting something better from those who are chosen to take the oversight of educational matters, and especially those who make their boast of going in “ at the head of the poll I” What we want is, not men gifted merely with the/«ror loquendi, who in a debate on school matters will bring in “Jerusalem, Christy Minstrels, and Brigham Young,” but men of principle and re-' spectability, and certainly men who will record their votes.—l am, etc.,

Principiib Obsta.
