TEMUKA MECHANICS’ INSTITUTE COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the above Committee took r ! aoe Hst evening Present—Dr Hayes (Presidi n'), M ssrs K. F, Gray, W. H Hirgreave*, J. Cooper, F. Aiclier, J. Lawson, and J. Bari.—A letter was read from the Bov. T. A, Hamilton, apologising for non-attendance. The Librarian banded in subscriptions to the amount of £3. It was resolved—“ That a new colonial oven be obtained for the kitchen in the Institute.” A discussion took place on the desirability of adding some new booka to those at present on the shelves, and it was resolved—“ Tlmt Messrs Hayes and Hargreaves be appointed a sub-committee to investigate the funds of the Institute with a view of seeing how much money is available for expenditure on hew books.” The Sub-Committee will be glad to receive suggestions from any member of the Committee as to what new works to order. Resolved—“ That the Librarian’s attention bo drawn to Rule 4 of the Institute,” The rule limits the time subscribers are allowed to retain books. Resolved—“ That stock be taken, and that the Librarian be given a week to get the books in. Resolved—“ That the Chairman and Messrs Gray, Hargreaves, and Haines be appointed a Sub-Committee to take stock.” A request was received that the Otago Daily Times should be added to the list of papers subscribed to by the Institute, but owing to shortness of funds it was refused. The mealing terminated with the usual Vote of ihanks to the Chairman.
