RAUKAPUKA LICENSING COMMITTEE.

The quarterly sitting of this Committee was held in the Courthouse, Geraldine, yesterday. Present—Messrs W. S. Maslin (Chairman), R. S. Cook, J. Mundell, A. Sherratt and Dr Fish. Mr C. E. bherratt, the clerk to the Bench, was also in attendance. MINUTES. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. inspector’s report. The quarterly report of the Inspector showed that the various licensed houses in the district were in a satisfactory condition. A report on the Kangitata Bridge Hotel premises was also read. It stated that the necessary furniture had been obtained, the fences put in repair, and the stable was in course of erection. It further slated that the new licensee, Mr Daily, was a man under whose management the house would be conducted satisfactorily. application for transfers, An application for a permanent transfer of the license of the Woodbury Hotel from W. Wadlow to T. Dooley wss granted, there being no objection. Mr J. J. Daily also applied for a permanent transfer to himself of the license of the Rangitata Bridge Hotel from the Official Assignee in bankruptcy of the estate of Jas. Watkins. The Chairman said he had seen Mr Beswick, the Assignee, who said tiiat Watkins told him he had never received the license for the hotel.

A duplicate of the license had been forwarded by Mr Sherratt, Clerk to the Bench, to Mr Stubbs, Clerk to the County Council, who should have forwarded it to Watkins. It is supposed that the license came into the hands of one Ferry, who was in possession of the Hotel for a time, and it probably was destroyed in the fire when the Hotel was burnt.

The Chairman read the 106th clause of the Licensing Act, which shewed, in reference to licenses being lost or destroyed, that power was given to the Chairman or two members of the Committee, under the 9tb Schedule of the Act, to give a certificate to sell in the place of the license lost or destroyed, In reply to Mr A. Sherratt, the Chairman said in the event of the license being found no one had a right to it but the Official Assignee, and no one could make any use of it. Mr Daily’s application for a transfer was granted and he, at the suggestion of the Bench, agreed to take out a certificate to sell as provided by tiie Act, as the transfer required to be endorsed on the license or certificate, TRANSFER OF THE CROWN HOTEL MANAGEMENT. Mr Thos, Farrell, Licensee of the Crown Hotel, Geraldine, applied under Clause ISS of the Act to have the management of the hotel granted to his wife and brother, as he wished to visit the Old Country and expected to be absent about four months.

The application was granted for five months, the police offeiing no objection. Ibis being all tha business the meeting adjourned,
