AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS,

GEUALDINB,

Messrs J. Mundeli and Co. report sales for the wtelc ending Saturday, 7th March, 1835 : At the monthly sale of stock in the Geraldine Yards on Wednesday there was an average entry ..of stock yarded, and the attendance was good, the result being that all the stock saleable found buyers at satisfactory prices, The totals yarded were 953 sheep, and 89 cattle. Prices realised were : - Crossbred wethers, in forward condition, 11s ; crossbred ewes, 7s 6d ; merino ewes, 3s 4d to 3s 8d ; crossbred lambs, 7s 7d to 8s sd. The demand is good for sheep for breeding purposes. At Winchester Fair, on Thursday, the heavy rain in the early part of the day prevented stock from being yarded, consequently we have no transactions of any importance to report. Washdyke.— At the opening sale at the Company’s new yards on Friday, there was a large entry of slock sent forward, dealers, and the public generally, showing their appreciation of the enterprise of the Company by being present in large numbers from all parts of the district. The prevailing opinion was that the yards will supply a want long felt in South Canterbury, viz., a public market centrally situated, with ample yarding accommodation, and close to the main line of railway. Although this sale was a little early for farmers, harvest operations not being quite finished, nevertheless a considerable amount of stock changed owners, publicly and privately. Of our entry we topped the market with a line of fat crossbred wethers at!4s Id ; steers, in forward condition, we sold at £6 ; pigs, weaners, 7s. Clearing sales.—On account of Mr Beaman, Woodbury, we sold bis household furniture and effects at prices satisfactory to the vendor. On account of Mrs Mills, Geraldine, we sold her household furniture, there was a good attendance of buyers, biddings coming freely throughout the sale. Produce, etc,, at our rooms ; Cheese, 6|d per lb; chick wheat, per sack, 7s ; binding twine, hemp 8d per lb, manilln, 7d per lb ; flour, per sack, 16s; bran, 4s ; tea, per box, 15s; best white sugar, 4d per lb.

Sheep,—A considerable number of store sheep have been tor sale at the different yards during the past fortnight but on account of values at present being so fluctuating, and also declining, a large portion are turned out not sold, owners preferring to hold rather than accept what is offered. As soon as stubble land is ready for stocking no doubt there will be an active enquiry for breeding sheep, and buyers cannot do better than supply themselves no v, as prices are bound to improve, They have placed privately during the week a grand line of |-bred 4 and 6-tooth ewes, consisting of 3000, to a Southland purchaser at a satisfactory price. They have placed piivately during the week 1200 merino ewes and 600 merino wethers at good prices. They have placed priva’ely 31 bead at about these quotations.
