MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held in the Road Board Office, Peel Fores', on Friday the 20th inst. Members present —The Hon. J, B. A. Acland (Chairman), Messrs C. G. Tripp, G. J. Dennistoun, R. Mackny, and A. Hawdon. MINUTES. ' The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The correspondence for the past month was read and considered : From Mr J. Talbot, expressing his views upon mailers connected with the Tiraaru Harbor works. From Mr W. R. Reay and other ratepayers in the Sherwood Downs and Clayton districts, requesting that the Board form a road from the Clayton road down to the east side of the Opihi River to the Fairlie Creek footbridge on the Allandale road. Resolved—“ That the Board cannot see their way to comply with the petition unless the petitioners could procure the land required for the road free of charge either for land or fur fencing, particularly as there is a road line at present leading from the south branch of the Opuha river to the footbridge along the Allandale Downs ; that part of it in -the Mount Peel district being already formed, the remaining part only requiring forming by the Mackenzie County Council.” • From the Manager of the Trust and Agency Company of Australasia, requesting to be supolied with a lithographed map of the district. The Clerk stated that lie had replied that as the district map hud never been lithographed, the Board could not comply with the request. From Mr W. Badger, in reference to liis publication of the “Statute Law of New Zealand," and soliciting an cider for the work. Resolved bo procured.” From Mr Charles Pye, requesting leave of absence for a short time io enable him to attend a meeting of delegates of the Order of Oddfellows at Invercargill. Ri-solved granted.” From Messrs White and Smithson, in reference to plosipg pertain mafia in the district, The Cleik was directed to see Mr White on the matter. From the Mackenzie County Council, forwarding a statement of' accounts for painting the Fairlie Creek footbridge, and requesting payment of half the cost. The account was passed for payment, INTE^V^E^. The Poupdkeeper at Bnel Forest bqd an intervievy with asking vyhether fie was justified jq allowing the pound to he used for any other purpose than that of impounding cattle. Resolved—“ That all animals put into the pound under any circumstances be charged (lie full poundage fees before they are released.” DIRECTIONS r |Q aiHti OEMRiv. Tlio Cjqjjfic vyas fijrec(ed to write to the County Council, asking whether the footbridge at Fairlie Creek could bo strengthened to carry sheep, what would bo the cost, and whether the County would agtee to carry out the work provided the Mount Bepl Board pay half the cost, to write to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, asking whether the Land Board has come to any decision in reference to the Board’s application for a grant of land on the Opihi river under the Forest Trees Planting Act.
