The enquiry will commence this week. The Hon. J. B. Thurston will watch English interests, and Mr Sale German interests. The cases of Sahl, Sedemann, Pfeffer, and Pflunger are the only ones that will be considered. After the conclusion of the enquiry Mr Thurston and Dr Croul, German Consul-General at Sydney, will draw up a report of AnglcGerraan interests in Fiji. The Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts voted £IOOO towards the establishment of the Bishopric at Fiji, The Recidivistes Bill was passed by the French Senate by an immense majority. A plot to destroy Nottingham Castle by dynamite has been discovered. It is reported in Berlin that England has yielded to Germany regarding the disputed boundaries in New Guinea. The “World Exhibition” at New Orleans is pronounced a complete failure. Germany is taking steps to raise a colouialarmy. Feb. 16. An Oriental Bank call amounting to three hundred thousand pounds was received on Saturday. The New South Wales Government have accepted the terms offered by the liquidator in the Oriental Bank estate, in settlement of their claims against that Bank, The health of Sir W. F. Stawel), Chief Justice for Victoria, is improving. Colonel Fletcher Owen, the new military commandant for Adelaide, will sail on March 26th. Feb. 17. Her Majesty the Queen is progressing favorably, the severity of the cold from which she is suffering having considerably lessened.
