GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Board wm held in the office. Talbot Street, on Wednesday evening. Members present— Messrs R. E. Pearpoint (Chairman), T. Farrell, N. Dunlop, W. S. Maslin, R. Taylor, J. Huffey and and the Clerk Mr C. E. Sherratt. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting ware read and confirmed. GOJRRESPONDENGB. To the Christchurch College Board of Governors asking permission to open a drain on the west side of Reserve 696 to bring in a flow of water to abate the nuisance complained of on the reserve. From Mr Steadman, Steward of the College, asking the Town JtSoard to inform the Board of Governors what the nuisance was. THE BOARD'S RBBBRT.ES. The Chairman reported that tenders had been invited for leasing the reserves and tli ey were then opened. The leases were for 21 years, with the exception of the market reserve lease, which is only for 7 years. Reserve No. 1847 on bank of Waihi river, between the pound and the cemetery corner : B. Gibson, £3 ; P*. H. Pearpoint,.£3 ; J. Huffey, £4; J. A. Quinn, £6 per annum (accepted). Reserves 6 and 7 containing about 8 acres in all: R. H. Pearpoint, £6 per anuum ; R. Taylor, 7« 6d per acre ; J. Mundell, 5s ; T. Farrell, £1 la ; F. Coogan, £1 2s 6d per acre per annum (accepted). Reserve No. 755, one quarter acre, opposite Mundell's auction rooms, on bank of river : J. Mundell, 3s per annum j W. S. Maslin, £1 10s per annum (accepted). Reserve No. 15, containing 6 acres, on the Waihi riverbed,, below the bridge : J. Mundell, £4 per acre per annum ; R. Morrison, £lO per annum (accepted). The market reserve, containing 3 acres and 2 roods : Thos. Farrell, 15s per acre per annum (accepted). Mr Dunlop proposed and Mr Farrell, seconded—" That the Finance Committee arrange with Dr Foster to draw out the leases for the reserves." oveksber's bkport. The Overseer read his report, which stated the only contract in hand was Mr Berkley's on the cemetery road, which was satisfactorily progressing, At a later period of the meeting an application for extension of time for two weeks on this contract was granted. The Overseer reported that one of the surface men, Grindall, had left to go harvesting and requested to be again employed after harvest. MrW. Frude had been put on in Grindall's place. Addie, the contractor for the culvert near| Mundell's, had,nearly completed.his work. It was resolved to pay Frude only 5s per day. The Overseer, as Inspector of Nuisances, read his report, which was approved. THE BOARD'S OSTIOE. Mr D. McKenzie waited on the Board with the design he had prepared of an office for the Board. The building is to be 30ft. by 18ft. ffith porch at front and a small leanto at the back. It will be divided into two rooms, by a moveable partition. After a few small alterations in the plan had been suggested, it was resolved on the motion of Mr Farrell seconded by Mr Huffey—"That Mr McKenzie's plans be accepted, subject to the windows being altered from 3 feet to 3ft 6in in width, and that tenders be called, to be in by. next meeting. The cost not to exceed £—." 800 REGISTRATION. The Clerk reported that 47 dogs had been registered with him. The Chairman said that unless the; Board carried out their intention to prosecute owners of unregistered dogs very little notice would in future be taken of their notices. Mr Dunlop moved, Mr Mundell seconded, and it was carried—" That the Registrar take proceedings against persons living within the Town Board area having unregistered dogs over the age of six months' in their possession." tux' board's ranoer. The Chairman said that as a good deal of ill-feeling had arisen against their present ranger, who was receiving half the fines recoverable from owners of stock trespassing on the streets, he would suggest that he be paid a salary instead and the Board receive the fines, and if necessary call for tenders for the office of ranger. Mr Mundell proposed, Mr Farrell seconded, and it wis carried—''That tenders be called for the post of ranger at a salary of £l2 per annum, one month's notice to be given on either side." Mr Maslin spoke against the raising of revenue by impounding. He hoped the Board would net look upon the matter in that light, but simply as a means of preventing the trespassing of stock on the streets. THE RANGER FOR THE TIMBKt RESERVES. Mr Maslin said that some local person should be appointed to look after the timber reserves within the Town boundary. Mr Shierß at one time acted as ranger, and then Mr Fuisell, of the Land Office, Timaru, but he lived too far away. He would propose that the clerk writs to the authorities asking that a local ranger be appointed to see that people did not cut or remove.timber from the bush reserves. This was carried. MISCELLANEOUS. The Chairman said nothing had been done in regard to the money matters between the Road Beard and Town Board, but thought something would be done next Board day. Mr Stephens not having complied with the notices sent him by the Board re the obstructions in the creek running through his property in Maalin'a Township, it was resolved to do the work at his expense. The Overseer was instructed to inquire as to the number of yards of asphalting likely to be requires! by busmeßs people, and also to find out whether the majority would be in favor of asphalt or concrete, The bridge near Dr Fish's has been completed, and the members of the Board expressed themselves as highly satisfied with the work that had been done to it.
