PRESBYTERIAN SUNDAY SCHOOL, GERALDINE.
On Sunday last the prizes wore distributed to the scholars attending the Presbyterian Sabbath School held in the schoolroom, lower township. The school is under the superintendence of Mr N. Dunlop, agisted by the following teachers, who were present at the distribution at the head of their respective classes ; Mrs Dunlop, Miss Helem, Mias Dunlop, Mias McLean, Masters John and James Shaw, Master Kenneth McKenzie, and Mr McLean. The children assembled at the school at 5 o’clock with a number of parents and friends, The meeting was opened by a hymn, and prayer by the Rev. Geo. Barclay, who then briefly addressed the children. He expressed regret at not coming into sufficient connection with the children, to bring them into more intimate acquaintance, for though he knew them all ho was sometimes puzzled to remember their names. After the address, recitations for special prizes were given by some of the children. Messrs A. Kelmanand A. McKenzie were requested by Mr Dunlop to act as -judges for the recitations, bat declined, as they had children of their own to compete. Miss Hamilton and Mr Bethune were then asked and consented and awarded the prizes to the following Senior Division —James McLean, Ist ; Win. Annand and Maggie McKenzie, equal, 2nd. Junior division —Maggie Dunlop, Ist; John McLean, 2nd. Tho prizes to the scholars attending the school were then distributed by the Rev. Geo. Barclay, who addressed a few kindly words to each recipient. Each child attending the school received a prize. About 100 children were present, 72 of them being attendants of the school. Mr Dunlop at the conclusion of the distribution spoke a few words of encouragement and advice to the children. The prizes were obtained from the Otago Bible Society, and are a very nio3 and suitable lot of books, They
should prova an incentive to the children to attend as regularly as possible, end also be the means of encouraging others to attend. This Sunday school has made good progress in the past, and wa hope that the labors of the teachers will still continue to meet with the success they deserve.
