GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Council was held yesterday. Present—Messrs W. Moody, W. Bdfour, R. Mackay, R. H. Postletnwaite, and R. A. Barker, In the unavoidable absence of Mr Talbot Mr Moody was voted to the chair. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read find considered : Prom the Chairman to the Clerk, authorising the latter to charge a dog registratiou fee of 10s. The action of the Chairman was confirmed. In reply to questions the Clerk stated that Government would not allow the police to act as desired in regard to the dog tax. From the Colonial Secretary notifying that Mr R. A. Barker’s election as the Council’s representative on the Hospital Board had been gazetted. From Mrs Maria Fitzgerald, of Orari, asking the Council to prevent Mr Wadsworth from allowing his cattle to trespass on her land, damming up a water-race in her vicinity, and injuring her fence.—The Council decided that they' had no power to interfere.
From the Mackenzie County Council, asking the Council to bear half the coat, of maintenance of the road between the ve Railway Station and the Paveora ger.—The Council decided that the ality indicated was not within its jurisdiction, and that, therefore, it could take no action in the matter. From the Ashburton County Connsil the Council to remit £l2los, part payment of repairs to Rangita to. bridge protective works. From Mr Rolleston, M.H.R., asking the Council to urge and co operate with the Ashburton County Council for the erection of u stock bridge of sufficient length over the Rangitata.—Mr Moody moved, Mr McKay seconded, and it was carried—That the Ashburton County Council be asked to reply to the proposal re stock bridge, pointing out that the Council will contribute towards the cost, provided the bridge be not less than three feet in width. That the Minister for Public Works be written to, pointing out three, at least, would be absolutely necessary for stock, and that such bridges have been constructed up to 3ft. 6in. and found to answer admirably; and to inform the Council if the Government consent that this course should be done." SLAUGHTERHOUSE LICENSES. Applications for renewed slaughtering menses, from Jas, Gragg, Oakley Farm ; W. Balfour, Washdyke ; W. Ackroyd, Temuka ; Tasker and Co., Geraldine ; G. Green and W, Gilchrist Timaru ; W. Mason, Rangitata ; W. Howens, Timaru ; E, Acton, Point; Lawson, Geraldine ; J. Fraser, Waitohi ; T. Flatman, Woodbury ; G. Osborn, Pareora; E. P. Mitchell, Waitohi; D. Mackay, Peel Forest; D. Fraser, Wai-iti ; H. Jones, Sutherlands, were granted.
