CRICKET.

GERALDINE V. CHRIST’S COLLEGE,

The match between the above Clubs was played on the ground of the former on Saturday. The weather was very unfavorable for cricket, a heavy rain setting in at about eight o’clock in the morning which did not cease till nearly one in the afternoon. It then cleared off and there were good hopes that the afternoon would keep fine. The game commenced about half-past three, but had scarcely done so when a heavy show?r passed over, followed by several others, and twice the men had to take shelter in the pavilion. Later on the showers ceased and the remainder of the afternoon was fine, but the rain had made the wicket very sloppy, which will account for the. small scores made on either side. Dr Fish umpired for Geraldine and the hev Mr Hare officiated for the College boys. The Gteraldine eleven want first to the wickets and were all disposed of fur a total of 48 runs, five scoring the unenviable “ duck.” Fred Fish played in his usual neat style for 8, and Pearpoint scored 4 by very careful play. Briscowas in good form with the bat, and obtained his 11 by good all round play. Ward hit out with his usual freedom and his score of 13 not out included a clean hit for 5. W. Hargreaves, and Wood for the College, were most successful with the bah, the former getting 5 and the latter 4 wickets. The College boys succeeded in putting together 62 runs, and thus won the match on the first innings by 14 runs. Harman, btudholme ami J. Hargreaves showed good cricket, each getting into double figures, Cox playing well for his score of 6, not out. Pearpoint was not in his usual form with the ball, though he was fairly successful. Very little liberty was taken with Fred. Fish’s bowling, and towards the end of the innings he improved, the last two or three wickets falling very quickly to him.
