j President—E. Eutherford ; Vioe-Presi : dent—W. S. Armitdge ; Judge—T, E. Jones; Stewards—W. Bush, W. Collins* H. Coxbead, W. G. Drummond, J. Hardcastle, senr., J. Ho Key, J. Matthews, G. Newey, G. Jones ; Official Timekeeper— M. Sherwin ; Handicapper—D.McKenzie ; Hon. Secretary—J. Melton. The second annual meeting under the auspices of the above took place on th«. Timaru racecourse on Tuesday, th© weather being fine, but extremely hot. The attendance was much larger than was the case at last year's meeting, between 1000 and 1500 people being present. Too much praise cannot be given to the officers of the Club for the way in which thay attended to their various duties; every one fulfilled the part alloted him, and the consequence was that the arrangements for the convenience of the public were carried out in a first-class manner, and everything passed off very pleasantly. Mr B. C. Bowden controlled the general license booths, and apparently did a very good trade, while Mi Eitchie's refreshment booth was also well patronised. Messrs Mason and Roberts had a to'alisator on the ground, but not a large amount was passed through it. The largest dividend paid during the day was on the Counties Handicap, when out of 165 subscribers 20 spotted the winner, tho dividen l amounting to £7 Bs. The rider of Saracen in the Selling Hack Bace was thrown, and received a rather severe shaking, but this was the only mishap that occurred. Music was provided by the Timaru Artillerj Band. We give below the result of the various events contested and regret that pressure on our space compels us to omit any detailed account of them. We can only say that nearly the whole of the races were closely contested, showiDg that the handicaps were good, and we trust that the success of this meeting will convince the Club that their efforts to provide races more especially for local horses are appreciated, and stimulate them to fresh exertions next year.
