CRICKET.

A match will be played to-day between elevens from the Temuka Young Men’s Cricket Club and the Timaru Nationals, at Saltwater Creek. The following have been selected to represent Temuka:—-J. Ogilvie (Captain), G. Velvin, G. Smith, J. Elyth, W. Dyson, T. Thomson, W. Mogridge, W. Brinkman, A. Franks, W. Uoltman, and C. Fauvel. The team leaves the Wallingford Hotel, per express, at nine o’clock punctually.

A good practice was had by the members of the Geraldine Club on Saturday, about a dozen turning up. A scratch match will be played this afternoon. Members are requested to turn out to practice every afternoon this week, so as (o get into form for the match against the College Eleven an Saturday. The Geraldine eleven will be chosen from among the followingW. M. Moore, Fred. Fish, Frank Fish, R. H. Pearpoint, W. H. Lodge, W, F. Hargreaves, W. Macdonald, Brisco, E. H. Templar, K. Temple, M. J. Godby, Geo. Slack and Geo. Ward. Any player not being able to take part in the match is requested to inform the Secetary as soon as possible. On Saturday, the 27th inst, a match will be played on the Geraldine ground with the Timaru Club.

GERALDINE V. OTAIO. A match between teams representing the above Clubs was played at Timaru on Friday last. Geraldine having won the toss elected to but and succeeded in putting together 56 runs before they were all disposed of. R. Temple was the only one who got into double figures, playing freely for his score. Jones played carefully, and Ashby also did good service. The Otaio men commenced their innings and put together 112 runs, overtopping the Geraldine team score by 56 runs. Godby was top scorer with 40, Manning and Reeves also receiving double figures, with 23 and 13 respectively. Both Godby and Manning were badly missed in the field before they had made very large scores. After the Otaio men were disposed of, Geraldine went in for their second innings, but only succeeded in putting together 37 runs, and their opponents thus won the match by an innings and 19 runs. For Otaio Godby and Lovegrove were most successful with the ball, while Hughes and Hargreaves did good service for Geraldine, The latter though not successful iu taking

many wickets bowled remarkably well, very few rims being made off his bowling. The following are the full scores :

A match was commenced on Friday at Adelaide between the English team now in Australia aad the Australians who recently had such a successful tour through England. The Australians went in first, and occupied the whole of Friday, patting together 243 before the last wicket fell. On Saturday the Englishmen went in and when the stumps were drawn for the day had put together 233 runs with the loss of only two wickets.
