All the vessels had been worked at the wharf when there was room. The curve in the breakwater was already exerting a beneficial influence. Toe second consignment of Portland cement (500 lons, per Asterion) was the best the Board had yet received ; not a single cask bad been rejected. The plans for the northern wharf had not been completed on account of a doubt existing in reference to the Government consenting to work a mixed wharf. The Engineer concluded his report by testifying to the fact of the curve in the breakwater having a marked effect on the range. This had been testified to by all the captains visiting the port. A discussion took place as regarded the wharf, Mr Gibson urging that the subject shoHld be delayed for a month. It was finally decided that the Engineer be instructed to use his discretion aR to including the decking and beam 3 for rails in the specifications for wharf. Eesolved —."That the Standing (Jommitee be requested to report at next meeting upon the financial position of the Board." Resolved—" lhat the Harbor Master be requested to forward a copy of the Engineer's and his own report, relative to the stoppage of the range, to the Insurance Association." It was decided that the Chairman should ascertain from Mr Back what his objections were to combined cart and railway traffic on the proposed jetty, and it was left for the Uhairman to refer the matter to the Standing Committee if he thought necessary. Accounts to the amount of £B2 83 for the Landing Service and £682 18s 2d for general works were passed for payment, and the meeting then terminated.
