Sydney, Dec. 3. Sailed, yesterday afternoon—Wakatipu, for Wellington. There are no fresh cases of smallpox reported since Monday. Two of the patients in quarantine are seriously ill.

Sailed this afternoon—City of Sydney, for San Francisco via Auckland. The Union Steamship Company of New Zealand have issued stringent instructions to all agents for a thorough medical examination of passengers fay each outward steamer from Australian, norts, in order to prevent the introduction of smallpox to New Zealand. Another case of smallpox occurred here to-day.

The Agent-General in London has telegraphed to Government that Lord Derby, in the House of Lords, denied th|, Imperial Government were hesitating to introduce the Enabling Bill, and that he has no wish to withdraw from the pledge given, and is sanguine that the measure will pass without opposition. His Lordship added that be expected to receive in the Spring replies from the colonies to the amendments proposed in the draft Enabling Bill, and explained that the delay which is taking place would enable New Zealand and New South Wales to re-consider their positions, although unanimity of those colonies in the matter was unnecessary {sic).
