DUNEDIN MAEKETS.
At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday, prices for fat cattle suffered a still further decline of fully 2s 6d per lOOlbs on last week’s quotations. The quality throughout was prime beef, and bullocks sold from £8 7* 6d to £ll 2s 6d ; cows, £4 17s fid to £8 15a ; prime beef, 20s to 22s fid per lOOlbr. Mr L. Maclean sold for Mr J. Page (Washdyke) 22 head bullocks and cows at, for bullocks from £7 15s to £ll 2s fid, cows £6 17s fid to £8 15s 5 for Mr A. Grant (Tomuka) 12 bullocks, from £8 10a to £9 2* fid, Qalves aold at 6a to Ifia each.
Fat Sheep—Beat crossbred wethers in the wool brought 17s to 20a ; shorn do, 10s to 13s 9d ; merinos in wool, 10& to 14s 6d. Prices declined from Is 61 to 2s 6d per head according to quality, and best mutton is quoted at3|d to Qd per lb, Pat Lambs—Besit lambs brought 14s 6d to dd j othera, IQs to 13a 6d. Piga—Suckers brought 12a to Ha j stores, 18s to 27s ; porkers, 28a to 3ss j bacon pigs, 41s to 84s. Store Cattle—There is faqr inquiry for three to five yea? old bullocks in fresh condition, at prices ranging from £4 10s to £€t 10s, Sheepskins—At the usual sales on Monday green crossbreds sold at 4s 6d to 5s lid ; dry do, Is 7d to 6s 10d ; green merino, 4s 6d to 5s fid ; dry do, Is lOd to 4;S IQd i pelts, 7d to lOd ; lambskins, 6d to Qd, Hides- Steady demand at late quotations. Tallow—lnferior sells at 15s to 22a ; medium, 23s to 25s ; good to prime, 26s to 29s per cwt; rougbt fat, 18s to 21s. Wheat—The market is utterly void of
animation. Choice samples of while velvet and Tuscan could be parted with at 3a 6d to 3s 7d per bushel, but holders are disinclined to sell at these rates, and millers refuse to operate beyond. Medium and inferior sorts are dull of sale at a further decline on previous quotations. Transactions are few, and quotations nominal at for prime (velvet and Tuscan) 3s 6d to 3s 7d ; red straw, 3s 3d to 3s 2d ; medium qualities, 2s 6d to 3s 2d ; frosted uud inferior, from Is fid to 2s fid per bushel. Oats—Supplies of really prime are scarce, and firmly held for previous rates. There is, however, very little outside demand, as shippers have no margin to operate upon, and therefore offer lower prices. Quotations : Prime milling, 2s 9£d to 2s lOd ; bright short feed, 2s fid to 2s 9d ; inferior, 2s 2d to 2s 7d per bushel.
Birley -Slight demand for milling qualities at from 2s fid to 3s ; feed, Is 8d to 2s 3d per bushel. Grass Seed—Very little business doing. Best machine-dressed, 4s to 4s 4d; farmers’ samples almost unsaleable. Potatoes—Market fully stocked, and prices easier. Derwent® are worth from £4 15s to £5 2s fid per ton. Wright, Stephenson, and Co. quote first-class draughts at from £3O to £35 ; medium, £2O to £25 ; light, £ls to £lB ; good hacks and light harness horses, £2O to £25 ; medium, £lO to £ls; light and inferior, £3 to £7. CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. At the Addington Yards on Wednesday a fairly large entry of stock was penned for this week’s double market, the attendance of buyers was large, and a moderate amount of business was done. In the fat sheep market, the quality on the whole was very superior. Market opened dull, but improved as it progressed, and for anything like quality good values were paid,'quite equal to late quotations. Shorn crossbreds sold at 13s fid to 17s fid ; do merino wethers, 8s 3d to 9s ; crossbred wethers in wool, Ifis fid to 24s ; ewes, 14s fid to 17s ; ditto shorn, 11s fid. A large entry oi store sheep met with a better market than of late. Sales as follows Lines of hoggets in their wool at 11s fid to 15s 4d ; a line of fourtooth first-cross wethers at 15a ; a line of merino wethers, full-mouthed, at 6s ; and lines of ewes and lambs at 9s fid and 18s per couple, etc. Fat lambs were in good supply, selling at from 9s fid to 12s per head. Fat Cattle—Cnly a moderate entry, principally first-class quality, demand good, and sales were made at an advance on late rates, equal to from 18s 6d to 22s fid per lOOlbs. Bullocks sold from £6 15s to £l2 10s ; heifers, from £5 10s to £8 ss. The store market was but lightly supplied ; a better enquiry manifested.— Press.
