GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

The ordinary fornightly meeting of the Board, postponed from Wednesday evening, was held in the Mechanics Institute on Friday evening. Present — Messrs E. H. Pearpoint (Chairman), Huffey, Maslin, Dunlop, and Mundell. Mr C. E. Sherratt, Clerk to the Board, was also in attendance. MINUTES, The minutes of last ordinary and of a special meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and considered : To the Colonial Secretary, stating no reply had been received to letter sent him re granting certain reserves and town sections to the Town Board.

To the Hon, Mr Rolleston, M.H.R. for the district, asking him if be was aware of anything being done in the matter of granting the reserves. From the Hon. Mr Rolleston, stating that the request of Town Board re reserves had been reported on by the Commissioner of Crown Lands, and as far as Mr Rolleston was aware there was no objection in the way of the request being granted,—Resolved- —“ That the matter be left in the hands of the member for the district.” overseer's report.

The Overseer’s report was read and the following resolutions passed thereon; “ That Mr G. Ward be notified that if his No. 1 contract is not finished in one week, it will be re-let at his expense.” “ That tenders be called for the following works : Picking the large stones off the main road ; forming the footpaths between the Cemetery corner and the Bush Hotel, and for forming Cole’s road“ That the Works Committe report on the culvert near Mundell’s at next meeting. ” enforcing the by-laws. Mr Dunlop moved that some posters be obtained and put up throughout the Town district, warning persons against allowing their horses apd cattle to wander on the streets, Mr Maslin seconded the motion pro forma, and proposed as an amendment—“ That a notice be inserted in the Gsraldinh Guardian to the effect that on and after the Ist November all straying cattle and horses will be impounded ; and also on and after that date pedlars and hawkers trading in the Town district will pelled to take out licenses,” Mr Huffey seconded tbe amendm en b and on its being out to the meeting, was declared carried, Mr Dunlop withdrawing bis motion, board's office. The Chairman said Mrs Macdonald had offered him a building, adjoining Taylor’s Hotel, which be thought would answer their purposes for a tijpe till future arrangements were made about a building of their own. Resolved obtained at a rental of £—• per annum, 3 months notice on either side to terminate the agreement.” MISpEpLANBOUS. The Chairman said Messrs Jackson and Sherratt had offered him soma pipes at a reasonable price and he had agreed to take them as be thought they would be useful to the Board.—Resolved —“ That the Chairman’s action be approved.” The matter of the future working of the Pound was left with the Works Committee to deal with. ACCOUNTS. An account for £l6 was parsed for payment and the meeting adjourned till next Thursday evening.
