MARRIED V. SINGLE,
The return match was played in the Temuka Park last Saturday, and resulted in a victory for the Married men. The captain of the Married men having won the , toss, decided to send the single men to the' wickets. Wood and Ogilvie commended, against the bowling of Smith and Hayhurst. It was not long before these two were separated, Ogilvie being clean bowled by Smith when only 10 run* had been put together. Yelvin followed, but before another run was added to the score Wood was caught and bowled by Hayhurst. Gurr followed, but, hitting a ball rather smartly towards Hargreaves, who succeeded in holding it, had to retire with= out scoring. The Single men were beginning to feel that their innings would close with a very small score, especially when the next player, McCaskill, retired with only 4. Haines was next sent in, and a stand was made, 28 being scored before the next wicket fell. Puns, however, came slowly, | and the innings closed for 45. The Married men then went to the wickets, and their longer experience soon told against the bowling of the Single men. Brown and Barker were the first to face the bowling of Wood and Ogilvie, The former was not in vary good trim, and, although only a few runs wore obtained, Gurr was put on to bowl, Brown was caught by Gurr off the bowling of Ogilvie when he had scored 4. Hayhurst then appeared, and when only a few more runs had been added, a shooter, coming from Ogilvie, took Barkei’s wicket—the score standing at 12 for 2 wickets. Hayhurst, together with Smith, ran the score | up to 26, when both went out simul* '
taneoualy. The next two, Sargreavea and Heap, gava the Single men some leather hunting—the former ccoring 16, not out, and the Utter' 21, .the highest score of the day.
