The Albert medal has been conferred on Dr W. McGregor, C.M.G., ReceiverGeneral of Fiji, for the gallantry displayed by him in rescuing coolies from the wreck of the ship Syria, which went ashore on the Masalai Reef on May 11th. The French claim that they obtained a great victory over the Chinese near Langson, Tonquin, on the 10th inst. Their accounts state that the Chinese General and three thousand of his officers and men were killed, the French loss being set down at twenty killed and ninety wounded.

The Egyptian Government have decided to cancel the proclamation by which the suspension of the Caisso de la Dette Publique was announced on Sept. 17th, and have ordered that the revenue assigned to the Caisse shall continue to be paid as in the past. The International Commission will therefore continue its control over the affairs, as provided by the law of liquidation.
