OHBISTOimROfI CORN EXCHANGE,

The Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday evening, the 17th inst :

Business transactions in grain during the week have been of a very limited nature, while the market for all kinds of produce, oats excepted, shows little prospect of mending—quotations as follows: Wheat.—Nominally 3s 2d to 3s 4d, for first class, f.o.b. ; seconds, 2s 6d to 2s 9d; chicken wheat, Is 9d to 2s, with very little enquiry for either class. Oats -Continue to improve in value with a brisk demand, which can hardly be met owing to the lowness of stocks. Prices firm at 3s for prime milling ; bright short feed 2s 10'd ; Tartarian and Danish 2s 6d to 2s 8d all f.o.b.

Barley Malting: quite inactive, nominally 3s 6d to 4s, Christchnrch. feed lots meet with more favor at from 2s 2d to 2s 66, Christchurch.

Beans and Peas are fairly well sought after for feed, and prices are maintiinad at 3s 3d for the former, and Ss 3d to 6d for the latter f.o.b.

Rye Grass Seed. —The season for this has about closed, still, good farmers' parcels command from 3s 6d to 3s 9d ; Machine-dressed 4s 3d to 4s 6d, f.o.b. Cocksfoot of prime quality and colour can scarcely be found, and what little is now in stock is held for 4£d to 4|d per lb f.o.b.

Potatoes, as might be expected, have not held up to the previous week's quotations. Buyers in the Sydney Market are holding off till the arrival of shipments now on the way. Some cargoes recently sent proving unsatisfactory in quality, has had the effect oi making buyers more wary, and, as a consequence, prices have suffered a drop of quite 20s per ton. Nominal value'£4 at country stations within 12 miles.

Butter and Cheese are both very hard to quit at 7d to 8d for the former, and 4d pe-i lb for the tetter.
