GERALDINE YOUNG MEN'S CLUB.

On Thursday evening last an adjourned meeting of persona interested in the formation of a Young Men's Club in Geraldine was held in the Good Templars' Hall. The attendance was very good, considering the wretched state of the weather.

The Rev. J. Preston occupied the chair, who, after a few preliminary remarks, called upon Mr Fisher to read the report ot the Committee which was as follows :

" Report of Committeee appointed to consider the basis on which to form a Young Men's Club in Geraldine :

" Your Committee have to report that having met and djly considered the matter over, they have arrived at the following deductions : « First.—That in order to establish a Young Men's Club it would require to have 30 active and 20 honorary members, The fees to be worked on the same basis as the Temuka Club, viz., 5s entrance lee and a monthly subscription of 2s. Boys under 14 years 2s Gd first month and Is per month afterwards. " Second.—The only building at all suitable for the purposes of the proposed Club is that belonging to Mr C. Pye, situate in the Main road and next to Mr Stonehouse's. This can be obtained at a rental of 7s per week, and will be put in good order before possession being obtained. Your Committee would suggest that the partition in the shop be taken down, thus making the whole frontage one room. The other rooms could be used for various purposes required by the members. " Third.—We have carefully gone into the probable expenditure, and have come to the conclusion that it cannot even under the most economical circumstances, be less than £SO per annum. We have noted down : Rent of premises, 7s per week ; caretaker, 4s per week, and fire-lighting 5s per week. The expense of furnishing would be, say—forms, £1 10s ; chairs, ±,4= 10s ; tables, £2 ; bracket lamps, £2 ; draughts and chessboard, £1 10s ; dumb bells, 10s ; singlesticks, 5s ; gloves, 20s ; domiLoes, 5s ; horizontal bar, 20s ; and vaulting pole, 10s ; total £ls. Then there would be the cost of advertising, printing, etc. " Fourth.— As a recommendation, we suggest that there is every leason to believe from the above calculations that a Young Men's Club could be successfully inaugurated in Geraldine.

" Fifth.—The following programme we also recommend as the basis on which the Club should be formed : Boxing, fencing, singlesticks, lectures, debates, dramatics, social entertainments, chess, draughts, dominoes, gymnastics, and Bible classes.

" Sixth.—We append a copy of particulars for the guidance of the Club. " Sigued by the Chairman and mem-

bers of Committee."

A copy of the proposed rules for the guidance of the Club was then submitted to the meeting. After a short discussion, it was unanimously resolved on the motion of Mr Patrick, seconded by Mr 15. Millard Proposed by Mr Chiverton, seconded by Mr W. Fleming, and carried—" That a Young Men's Club be established in Geraldine."

It was resolved—" That the sub-Com-mittee already appointed obtain the necessary furniture for the Club room, and that the offer of Mr Willoughby to procure the apparatus for the Club be accepted ; to use his own discretion as to the amount to be paid for same."
