i TO THE EDITOR. SiK,-~My attention has been drawn to a letter appearing in jour issue of Saturday last asking if tenders had been called by the Geraldine Dairy Company for the supply of milk cans. I would like to ask the inquirer where was the necessity of doing so, when it is a well known axiom of the Directors of the Company to gire their work to those who ire locally interested in the town and transacting business therein, which was the case with both myself and Mr Ogilrie, wbo na * B 6{>bh receded orders for the making of a few of the cmiis required for the purposes, of the Company. I can assure you, sir, from my own personal knowledge of the Directors and their Secretary, if they thought the Company would have been

benefited through their calling for tenders for this bone of contention (a few milk cans) they vould undoubtedly have done so, but being so small a matter I, for one. cannot see the necessity for their so doing. However, if Mr Hodgson is piqued through not haying had the samo privilege as ourselves, 1 can assure him he is quite welcome to make me an offer to purchase my business, and thereby become entitled as a local tradesman to the patronage that might be thus bestowed by the Company when they require work to be performed in the line of business which he follow?.—I am. etc., Wm.
