FRANCO-CHINESE WAR.
Hong Kong, Oct. 4. A fresh outbreak of hostilities has occurred between the French and Chinese in Tonqnin. The Chinese troops stationed between Bal-ha and Langsou were observed to advance, and the French gunboat on the Lang-Koi proceeded to reconnoitre them.. An attacking party lauded and severe fighting ensued, in which the French sustained a loss of thirty killed and wounded. Admiral Lesseps, commander of the Chitia squadron, is now co-operating with Admiral Courbet, and with a portion of the French fleet, is attacking Sam-sin, in Formosa. On the completion of the bombardment Admiral Lesseps will occupy the port. Oct 5. News from Formosa is to hand showing that the French have been completely successful in their operations on the island. Admiral Courbet has secured possession of Kelun°, and a strong body of troops has occupied the town. The Chinese batteries at Taoism have been captured by Admiral Lesseps, and have since been dismantled and rendered ineffective. Oct. 5. Port Tamsin, on the coast of Formosa, was to-day occupied by French troops, landed by Admiral Lesseps.
