A Maori woman 107 years old died at Puriri (Auckland) last week. A man named Alexander Forsyth died at the Dunedin Hospital on Tuesday, from injuries received by being run over by a tram in the bush at Catlin's River.

The body of a man was found on Monday between Edendale and Half-way Bush. It is supposed to be that of one Fisher, and that he died from exhaustion about five weeks ago. At the Resident Magistrate's Court, Christchurch, on Tuesday, George Stevenson, vrho came from England in the Coptic, was fined £25 for smuggling 29 second-hand watches, and three silver chains.

Two gold prospectors named Perry and McKenna have been committed for trial at Wellington for obtaining money under false pretences. It is alleged that they "salted " a reef at Masterton. A man named Alexander Forsythe Anderson was arrested at Otaki, Wellington, on Tuesday, charged with embezzling £240 from the Board of Guardians, Brownlow Hill, Liverpool, England. Accused has £SOO 10s to his credit in a Wellington Bank, and was storekeeping at Otaki.

A telegram was on Monday received at Dunedin from Sydney by Mr James Gray (of Messrs Eeid and Gray), stating that William Beid, son of the late Mr Eeid, had shot himself at that place on Saturday afternoon ; whether accidentally or otherwise the telegram does not state. The deceased was nineteen years of age, and had been away from Dunedin for about six weeks, having gone on a trip for his health.

At Wellington an information has been laid against Mr Martin, Chairman of the Early Closing Association, for holding a demonstration in front of a non-closing draper's shop. There was a narrow escape from another serious fire in Dunedin on Monday. Chambers, Venetian blind maker, wa3 heating some varnish over a fire in his workshop, Dee Street, when it boiled over and burst into flames, settinc fire to the surroundings of the fire-place. He seized the can and bore it to- the door ; but unfortunately he fell, and was severely scorched by the burning varnibh. The fire in the shop was extinguished by passers-by.
