The Corn Exchange report for the. week ending Friday evening, the 3rd inst :
The business done in wheat during the .week has been very insignificant, while former prices ore. difficult to maintain. The outside iiema;d is conspicuous by its absence, and many vsho shipped to London on their own account are now realising some of the disappointment experienced by speculators in thus grain. There is still a moderate demand locally for scund milling samples, ar.d a few lines have been placed at very fair prioes, considering the depression. Oats, on the oontrary, show a firm upward tendency, with a brisk demand, and have advanced about 2d per bushel all round on the previous week's quotations. Stooks, however, are running very low, and as ft consequence very few large transactions have eventuated. Malting barley has not shown any particular feature worthy of notice, although feed lots, in sympathy with oats, are a little more inquired for. Beans and peas are likewise in oetter request, owing to the same cause. The demand tor grass seeds begins to slacken on acoountof the sowing season drawing near to a close. Some few inquiries, however, are atill made for really clean maohine-dressed. Potatoes oontinue to exoite the hopes of holders to an almost extravagant extent by the steady rise in value. The Sydney and Auckland markets are to be oredited with this, on acoount of having drained stocks to such a low ebb that the beat part of the balance now on hand will no doubt be required for local consumption. Dairy produce Bhows no improvement, either in demand or yalue.
