ACCIDENTS OFFENCES, ETC.
Whilst scraping paint of the side of the side of the steamer Triumph in the graving dock at Auckland on Wednesday, a man named Thomas Keicheler was thrown off the staging, which canted and precipitated him 30ft to the floor ef the dock. Two others, Robinson and Onaljr, were also thrown off but held on to the side of the vessel till rescued. Keicheler was picked up in an unconsious state, and died during the same night. Poppens and McGrath the two abscond* ing publicans, are on board the Wakatipu which left Sydney for Wellington on Tuesday. Joshua Beard, a miner, died at the Wellington Hospital on Wednesday morning from injuries received while blasting with dyramte at Ngahouranga on Saturday last. Tha charges exploded prematurely, and the man was injured about the head by the nieces of rock. The man found in Otepopo tunnel is David Aitken, belonging to the Te Anau. He had proceeded to Oamaau to see his sister, A Mrs Mary Smith, wife of a seaman, and who arrived by the Waihora from Duuedin, was assaulted in brond daylight in the Western Park. Auckland, by four lads, who threw her down, covered her mouth and robbed her of a purse and money. Three of them were arrested. During a quarrel at Paikakariki (Wellington, on Tuesday, a man had the end cf his nos* bitten off by another. The offender was arrested last night. An information has been laid against a man named Dooley, at Dunedin, for having brutally ill-used his child. After the information bad been laid, Messrs Johnstone and Lougrey, Corporation officers, had to be called in to protect tha child from further ill-usage.
