At the Forestry Exhibition held in Edinburgh, Australia was awarded one silver medal and a diploma ; New Zealand was also awarded one broi.ze medal and three honorable mention?. The Czar and Czarina drove in an open carriage, without any escort, through the principal streets of this city to-day. Their Majesties were everywhere received with loud demonstrations. San Francisco, Sept. 9. The steamship Zealandia, with the inward mails, dated August 19th, arrived here yesterday. Cairo, Sept. 9. Earl Northbrook and Lord Wolseley arrived here to-day. Sept. 10. Earl Northbrook waited upon the Khedive to-day, and presented his credentials as British Commissioner. The Khedive received His Lordship very cordially, AUSTRALIAN CABLE. Sydney, Sept. 11. Sailed, Tuesday afternoon—Steamship Wakatipu, for Wellington. Sailed, this afternoon—P.M.S. City of Sydney, for San Francisco, via Auckland. The Government have commenced a prosecution against Dr Eichler for omitting to give information of the cases of smallpox which occurred at the Orient Hotel, George street, and which he attended. Brisbane, Sept. Jl. The Treasurer made his financial statement in the Legislative Assembly last evening, and showed that the revenue for the last financial year amounted to £2,370,000. The estimated revenue for the current year was £270,000, and the expenditure £2,300,000. It is proposed to raiss a lew loan of one million sterling.
