TO THE EDITOR. , Sm,—As there appears to be some misunderstanding with reference to the reserve which has lately been rested in the Temuka Domain Board, I should feel obliged if you will insert this” explanation for the. purpose. ,ot placing this matter in its true light before the public. Some years ago, before the provinces Were - abolished, a circular was sent to the Chairman of the Temuka Road Board, asking him if there was any’ latfd shitkble fo'r recreation purposes In the uieghberhood. 1 'Mr Talbot (then Chairman) along : with Mr Mutch (Overseer to the Temuka Road Board) fixed on;' 50 acres of land near the Totara' Btish, which was in due course gazetted as a recreation reserve, and which the then. Park Board were fully cognisant of, but no further steps were taken in the matter until eight months ago, when Mr Nicholson drew my attention to the fact that the land was being used and the rents accruing were paid to the Steward of Reserves when they ought to have been credited to the Domain Board here. As the land bad not been officially placed under the control of the Board they had no legal claim to the rents. ,1 therefore laid the matter before the Hon. W. Rolleston, late Minister of Lands, etc,, asking him if he would endeavor to get the reserve vested in the Domain Board who were the proper body to deal -with it. The result is known, and great praise is due to that gentleman for his assistance. —I am, etc.,
