COURSING.
Notwithstanding the wretched state of the weather on Thursday last, by the kind permission of W. Postlethwaite, Esq., a large number of sportsmen met on the Raukaupuka Estate for a day’s coursing. Mr T. Farrell acted as , Judge until the arrival of Mr P. Thomson, of Temuka, and Mr John Bull undertook the office of slipper. After lunch several gentlemen arrived from Temuka, with dogs. When the draw for the Temuka dogs took place Mr Farrell again undertook the judgeship, as Mr Thomson had an interest in the event, running one of his own dogs. The following are the results :• — ALL AGED STAKES. First Round. Mr M. Connelly’s Queen beat Mr Kennedy’s, Jack without ever giving him ft show# Mr H. Smith’s Pelham boat Mr Wharton's Mata, after a long and good course, with very little to spare. Mr Bull's Ned beat Mr Kennedy’s Darkie, not letting him score once. Second Round. Queen beat Pelham. Ned ran a bye. Final Round. Mr M. Connelly’s Qneen (First KingBlack eyed Susan) beat Mr J. Bull’s Ned (Richmond Hioemoa) and won the stakes. PUPPY STAKES. First Round. Mr J. Wharton’s Mata beat Mr G. Bethune’s Nellie. Mr M. Connelly’s Virginia Water and Mr Bull’s Vix ran ah undecided course. This was the prettiest course of the day, M.- Graves’s Annie (Richmond Hinetnoa) ran a bye. Second Round. ! Aaaio boat Mata. This was a good course. Vix beat Virginia Water. , Final. Mr J. Groves’s Annie (Capital Hinemoa) and Mr J. Bull’s Vix divided the stakes. After lunch a draw took place for the Temuka dogs, resulting in a victory for Mr • Wheelband, whose b s Duchess of Argyle (Argyle—Lady Bandon) won the stakes. At the conclusion of the day’s sport three hearty cheers were given for Mr Postlethwaite for his kindness in allowing the coursing to take place on his estate.
