‘ Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the past week,, ending as follows: ■:

Horses—There is little to report just now in the market for horses ; the demand for anything I)ut. really good sorts is dull, and when owners are determined to S' ll low prices have to be accepted. There are at present; .few of the right stamp coming in for, sale - ..for these there is an inquiry, and when oiieied invariably bring good prices. About thirty head were to-day offered,, nearly a half of which found buyers at froth £l4 to £2l ICs for medium good draughts, and from £8 to £l7 foi light and inferior hor°es.

Cattle —Well-forward, two or three-year-old steers and heifers a,re in demand, bat prices offering are....not tempting. Young mixed cattle are duii of sale. At Makikihi last Monday a few head of fat cattle were sold, at. about 17s 61 per 1001 b. At the Washdyke on Tuesday last, at the same quotation, a few head found buyers. Tne entries, were not numerous Privately .during the week they sold twenty-five steers and heifers at a satisfactory price. ~c , Sheep—-Good two-tooth crossbreds and merino ewes in lamb are in demand, and several transactions ' have taken place. Both classes are quickly bought up when offered for sale. At the’ Washdyke on Tuesday about 800 merino ewes were offered, h nd though not sold at auction were disposed of privately at yery satisfactory prices. They quote values of these from 8s to 10s. Fat sheep —Present values may be quoted »t nearly 31 per lb, and owners of prime lots,are holding out for this price, and ia.aomo instances have got it when the quality was good. Wool, Skins, Hides, Tallow—Their usual fprtnightly sale was held last Wednesday, whsn a smaller, than usual catalogue was offered. l our bales wool, 800 skins, 24 hides and a few sacks tallow were offered, and all were sold at the following prices.:—Mixed wool at sd, locks, Id ; butchers’ best crossbred skins, 4s .'3d ; ■ merinos, 2s 6d ; farmers’ and station skins, 2s 3d. to 3s. 2d for merinos and crossbreds ; inferior skins, from Is 6il to 2s 3d ; pelts, 3d to 6d ; hides, 3d to 4d per Jb ; tallow, 2gd to 2£d per lb.

AUSTRALIAN MARKETS.

Sydney,; August 15

New Zealand wheat has fallen to 3» 3d per bushel; New Zealand oats advanced to 2s 8d ; maize, 4s 2d ; Sugar Company's No, 1 pieces, per ton, £3l. Adelaide, August 15.

Wheat is quoted to-day at 3s 4d. The market is dull at a further decline on account of Home advices stating that cargoes have been abandoned owing to the very fine weather now prevailing, and the favorable nature of the crop accoun's. Flour—Town brands. £8 17s 6d to £9; country ditto, £8 to £8 15s.

ENGLISH MARKETS.

London, August 14

Australian,hides are in good demand, and have realised at to-day’s sales full prices to a slight advance.' The wool catalogue at to-day’s sale comprised 10,600 bales. Prices wore firmly maintained. The total quantity offered since the opening of the series wsa 29,800 bales, of which 1200 were withdrawn.

The frozen moat by the s.s. Victory '■* realising to s£d per ,Ib. The me .?, ex Orient and Doric has arrived in goon’ condition.

; August 15. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 1,760,000 quarters. Kauri gum, best selected transparent has declined to £ls 5s per cwt. Mutton, prime New Zealand is at 5d per lb.

Adelaide wheat ex store remains at 395, and New Zealand ditto at 34s to 40s. Adelaide flour ex store is at 275.

Australian tallow of average quality, beef 355, do mutton 355. At to-day's wool auction 10,100 bales were ottered. The market continuesfirm.
