GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

A meeting of the members of the above Board was held in the Literary Institute on Wednesday evening last. Members present Messrs Pearpoint (Chairman), Maslin, Dunlop, Mundell, Farrell, Taylor and Uuffey. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. INWARDS CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was received from the Colonial Secretary, dated 6th August, 1884, acknowledging rec«ipt of letter from the Board, and stating he had fot warded seven copies of the Town District Boards' Act for use of the members, and also that the Government Gazette would be regularly forwarded to the Board. From the Clerk to the Geraldine County Council, to the effect that the sum of £llO had been placed to the credit of the Board on account of publicans' licenses within the Town District.

, From the Manager, Bank of New Zealand, .Geraldine, requesting that some culverts might be placed over the channelling of the roadway facing the new premises of the Bank. OUTWARDS CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence, forwarded from the office, was read:— To the Town Clerk, Timaru, acknowledging receipt of the by-laws of the Borough of Timaru. To the Chairman Teaiuka Town Board, acknowledging receipt of letter re basis of settlement between that Board and the Temuka Road Board.

To the Colonial Secretary, re reserves the Board was desirous of getting vested.

To the Chief Commissioner Waste Lands Board, Christchurch,re the same.

To the Chairman County Council,acknowledging letter intimating that £llO had been placed to the Board's credit.

In response ro the letter from the Manager of the Bank of New Zealand, it was proposed by Mr Maslin, seconded, by Mr Danlop and carried—" That in answer to Mr Cunningham's letter, he be informed that the Board will place u substantial crossing to the main entrance to the Bank ot New Zealand ; and that he be allowed to place two horse post*, under the supervision of the Oversitr.'' \ RESERVES COMMITTEE. The Reserves Committee stated what action they had taken in regard to the reserves, which action was coaeidered moat satisfactory. MISCELLANEOUS. Mr Huffey asked permission to erect a verandah in front of his premise?.— The request was granted on the motion i of Mr I)unlop and seconded by Mr Farrell. j

The Chairman suggested that another surfacemen should ba employed in addition to the one at present at work. —This was unanimously agreed to on the motion of Mr Mundell, and seconded by Mr Dunlop. Resolved that a nine-inch pips culvert be placed near Mr Butcher's house.— The Clerk was instructed to obtain some pipes from the Geraldine Boad Board ; also to have ;the horse posts opposite the Crown Hotel remored inside the kerbing of the footpath, and to obtain two wheelbarrows for use of the Board,

The Clerk requested an extension of fourteen days to complete the rati-roll. —The game was granted.

It was decided to take up tbe culrert opposite the police station, and to put down another similar to that to be placed opposite the Bank of New Zealand. The Orerseer was instructed to make a survey of tbe streets and footpaths within the area of the Tow» district, in respect as to what work was required to be done on them and to report at next meeting.

Tbe Clerk to carry out the instructions of the Geraldine County Council up to the time of the issuing of the proclamation in respect to the Town Board and to receite the fees for dog registration ; also to apply to the County Council for the necessary number of collars required and to pay for same. The cheques drawn by the Board to be signed by the Chairman and any two membars of the Board. All cheques to bear the seal of the Board.

Proposed by Mr Masb'n, seconded by Mr Mundell and carried—" That the Geraldine County Council be applied to for a refund of *£2 2s, paid by Mr T» Farrell for license at the last races." The Clerk was instructed to obtain twrlva maps of the Town District for use of the Board.

All accounts against the Board to be paid during the first meeting in each month.

The Chairman having in limited' that in accordance with the, Act it would be necessary to obtain « seal for the use of the Board, it was decided to obtain a rubber stamp for that purpose. The Chairman give a luccinet recount of the result of flic interview with the Geraldine Koid Board by the deputation appointed during the last meeting of the Board.

Messrs Maslin, Dunlop and the Chairman were appointed a By-law Committee, for the purpose of drawing up a code of by-laws ; to report during next meeting of the Board. The Cleek was empowered to obtain 100 post-cards for calling the meetings of the Board, the same to be printed.

It was decided that the Worka, Committee remain in office for,one'month. Proposed by Mr Maslin, seconded by Mr Mundell and carried—" That the Clerk be instructed to write for » copy of the Municipal Corporations Act and the Board of Health Act ; alio, to write to the Member for Geraldine asking; him to endeavor to find out what control the Town Board would ha\e ; over the Cemetery in the district—-as to whether the trustees of the Cemetery still had power, or if it would be rested in the Town Board."

The Board then adjourned for a fortnight.
