LONG SERMONS.
The following rather unusual remarks from the pulpit are given in the Wilcanoia Grazier, of May 28th; —“On Sunday evening last the incumbent of St James’, before entering upon the subject he had chosen to expound, took his ‘brethren’ of the morning severely to task for divers expressions of complaint they had made use of at the length of the sermon he had 'that day read in favor of the good cause of temperance. The r<*v. gentleman contrasted the present degenerate rimes with the good old days, when a sermon nf less - than an hour’s duration was not considered worth listening to, warmly reproved his hearers for their impatience, and for being, like the disciples of old, unable to w.tch ‘for one hour,’ and brought bis lecture to a close by tha characteristic exclamation ; * Wbv had Tommy Empson not entertained* yon longer than I detained yon this morning, you would have demanded your money back !” Outspokenness is always duly appreciated by all except those against whom it is directed, and whenever a public speaker expresses an adverse opinion to some unknown persons who am listening to him, it is not hard to discern the pleasure with which every other man turns to his neighbor with * That’s one for } our noh,’ plainly written on h'6 face.”
