CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE. The Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday evening, the 1 1st inst :

For the week just ending, there baa’ been a somewhat better • tone exhibited in the grain and produce market. Buyers are, as a rule, inclined to meet sellers in a more amiable spirit than has been shown for some time past. In w'hf'afj- -fealty sound samples can be placed at ruling’ rates, although the Home quotations are'nbi-pt-sSufficiently good to warrant an advance price. The tenor of the latest telegrams seel®, to point in an upward direction, and, as we must be thankful for even this little comfort, the hopec of holders are now of a much more sanguine nature. Oats show no alteration worthy of note, and prices are only just maintained. Barley is not much inquired tor, but first-class samples would readily command a sale at current rates. Thera have ■ been large shipments of potatoes made in the week, and holders are warranted in anticipating an advance in price. Peas *nd beans are just in the same position as reported last week, whilst dairy produce shows a little more animation. Quotations for the week are as under: — Wheat—Tuscan 3s 4d, Pearl 3s 3d, Hunter’s white, 3s 2d ; for sound and dry seconds, 2s 3d to 2s 6d ; chick wheat, Is 9d to 2s. Oats—Bright milling, 2s 3d ; short feed, 2s 2d ; Tartars and Danish, Is 8d to 2s.
