At Normanby (Otago) a hotel was broken into on Friday night, and £250 taken from the till. Seme spirits were also stolen. James Themas, engine*!’ of the ship Rangitkei, now at Auckland, fell off the gangway of the ship whilst going aboard on Saturday night ; he was slightly under the influence of liquor. He was roseued from the water by the second mat# and n seaman, but life was extinct, and all efforts to resuscitate him failed. George Ebbs, photographic artist, was fined 20s and costs for practi.i his art by taking portraits on S’ l "day on the beach road, Devonport (Auckland). This is the second prosecution of the kind. At the Auckland Board of Education meeting on Saturday a country school teacher wrote staling that on sending a letter to a settler complaining of the irregular attendance of his children, the parent levelled a revolver at the boy who took the message.
