Melbourne, July!. The -Victorian revenue for the last quarter amounted to £1,510,000, an increase of £156,000 compared with the corresponding quarter'of last year. The revenue for the year ended 30 h June, amounted to £5,930,000, an increase of £332,000 compared with the previous year. Railway receipts have increased £256,000 ; excise revenue has decreased £91,000, owing to the readjustment of the stamp duties. Five Australian Governments having ' agreed to share the expenses attaching to the extention of British rale in the Pacific, Mr Service has telegraphed to the Agent-General in London, stating that the required a nount, £15,000, is guaranteed by the colonies. Other cases of illness similar to those which appeared at Malvern and Prabran, and which were believed to be smallpox, continue to occur at different places. A student at the hospital is now seriously ill with the same complaint, and other cases are reported. The affection is said to be highly contagious and difficult to diagnose. Sydney, July 1. The New South Wales revenue tor quarter ended SO?h June amounted to £1,830,000, an increase of £119,500 compared with the revenue for the corresponding period last year. The question of religious instruction in State schools is now seriously occupying the attention of the New South Wales Government. Hobart, July 1. The revenae for the year ended June 30th amouted to ±,560,000, the highest ever received.
