MONTHLY CIRCULAR FOR MARCH, 1884,

The following appears in the Londonderry Standard ;—ln the month of March, 1884, contrasted with March, 1883, the Board of Trade returns show fairly comparatively favorable results as regards the linen industry, and the absence of decreases in the several departments is satisfactory, more especially when the figures representing the general trade of the United Kingdom indicats a condition of a decidedly less encouraging character. The imports of flax in March, 1883, show a marked increase of 32.9 per cent in quantity, and 19.4 per cent in value, over those of March, 1883, and three mouths ended 31st March, 1884, are in excess of corresponding period in 1883. Yarn exports in March, 1884, exhibit a largo increase of 38.2 per cent in quantity, and 22.3 per cent in value compared with March, 1883. Among the increases may be noted that to Belgium of 72.2 per cent in quantity, to Spain of 56.0 per cent, to Germany of 39,5 per cent ; to Franco of 15.0 per cent ; the only decrease being to the United States of South America of 42.9 per cent in quantity. There is an increase in the exports of the three months ended 31st March, 18-84, of 16.5 per cent in quantity, and 17.1 per cent in value. The exports of thread in March, 1884, exceed those of March, 1883, by 24,5 per cent in quantity, and 14.4 per cent in value, and the three expired months of 1084 are 17.8 per cent iu quantity, and 3.7 per cent in value over corres ponding period in 1883, In the exports of linen (piece goods) in March, 1884, there is an excess contrasted with March, 1883, of 5.7 per cent in quantity, and 1.6 per cent in value. To Brazil the increase in March, 1884, is 72.2 per cent in quantity over March, 1883, to the United States of Columbia 59.3 per cent, to British East Indies 41.6 per cent, to Spain and Canaries 35.5 per cent, to Australasia 34.7 per cent, and to the United States of America 4.0 per cent. On the other hand, among the decreases, the exports to the British West Indies is 40.7 per cent iu quantity, and to the foreign West Indies 21.3 per cept. The exports for the three months ended 31st March, 1 884, is 2.7 per cent under those of 1883 in quantity, and 5.2 per cent in value.
