GERALDINE BEAGLES.
The mest last Tuesday morning took place at Mr Charles Hewson's, Richmond Farm, near Orari Bridge. The weather was delightful and all that could be desired for hunting. In the absence of the worthy master (Mr A. L. Barker) who was unable to be present through inevitable circumstances, Mr Francis Barker performed the duties of master, and he is to be congratulated on the very satisfactory manner in which he got on. About 11 a.m. a start was made for the tryating ground and shortly after reaching there a cast was made in a paddock near the homestead. Very soon the game little pack gave tongue when a fine hare was driven from cover, going at a slashing pace in the direction of the Baukapuka estate. Unfortunately, several hares got up and marred what would have been a splendid run. Hounds, therefore, were whipped off and another draw was made in the tame paddock. Puss had to skedaddle again from her haunts and after a short burst she was run into. The paddock was drawn again and very soon the melodious cry from the hounds went forth and in a little while a fine hare was ▼lewed steering her course in the direction of the Orari bridge. A splendid run followed, hounds and hare going at a rattling pace, and after a good spin of about twenty-five minutes puss was obliged to succumb. It now being after 2 p.m., hounds were whipped off and the party proceeded homewards afterenjoying a pleasant day's sport. The fences met with were rather stiff in some places, but all were negotiated in proper style. One ©r two incidents to the riders occurred, but none worth speaking of. Another meet took place yesterday (Friday), at the cross roads near the Manse.
