GERALDINE RACING CLUB
The annual meeting of the members of the abore Club was held in the Crown Hotel, Geraldine, on Monday evening last, there being a good attendance. Mr J. H. Cunningham was voted to the chair. MINUTES. i The minute* of tha previous annual and special meetings having been read and confirmed, the Secretary read the following. 1 REPORT. The receipts for the year ending Ist May, 1884, amount to £1229 Us 6d, including overdraft at the Bank of New Zealand at that date of £25 16s. The expe-'bt.ure for the same period was , Stakes"-, C 733 15s; improvements on the c -irse, £278 14s lid; expenses in carrying out the races; prating, over- : draft, «nd interest on same, £16718 7d. I m>y state hare that there has been expended in improvements on the course, £Bl9 12s 7d, to the present date, and that the outstanding debt* due to us exceed what we owe by about £SO. I think I may fairly state the success of i the Club for the past two years has been : quite up to the mark. The intentions of the Committee for the future are to eiect permanent booths with a cheap stand for the general public over them, which I think will pay for themselves within one ; year and will be a good income at every meeting after. 1 may state for the information of the meeting that the nomin- , ations for our steeplechase meeting on 26th June have filled in very well, viz., 9 for the Gang Forward and 13 for the Tally-ho Handicaps. Your Committee do not expect that that meeting will leave a large surplus, but it will do good in showing the racing men what we have done in altering the course for our annual meeting. The balance sheet was considered highly satisfactorily, especially in the fact that the overdraft which on June 4th 1883 was £lO7 15s 4d, had been reduced to that extent that on May Ist 1884 it stood at only £25 16s. After a short discussion, on the motion of Mr R. S. Cook, and seconded by Mr J. Kennedy, the report wa* unanimously adopted. COMMITTED. The Secretary stated that the retiring members of Committee were Messrs Lawson, Denoon, Pearpoint and Dili rier. The first three were eligible for re election. Proposed by Mr R. Taylor, seconded by Mr Muadell and carried —“That Messrs Law«on, Denoon, and Pearpoint be reelected members of Committee.” Proposed by Mr Denoon, and seconded by Mr Muadell and earned —“That Mr Gregg be elected a member of Committee in the etead of Mr Ollivier.” NEW MEMBERS. On the proposition ot Mr McKenzo seconded by Mr Denoon, Messrs F. Grimmer, T. Warner, N. Dunlop and J. L. Cooke, were unanimously elected members of the Chib. HONORARIUM. The Chairman eulogised the services the Hon. Secretary, Mr D. McKenzie, had rendered to the Club, and suggested that the meeting should vote him the sum of £25 as an honorarium. It having been pointed out to the Chairman that the voting of an honorarium to the Secretary was vested in the Committee tha subject dropped. THE BOOTHS. It was resolved—“ That the suggestion embodied in th* report re erection of permanent booth* bo recommended from this meeting to the Committee.” 1 A hearty vote of thanks to the Mon. Secretary, was carried by accla- , mation. The meeting then terminated. 1 TTTTIT!!-!-raW"=gsfe-^
