3 * ; AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS. 1 _ 1 ~ , TIMARU. * i Messrs Maclean and Stewart report : for tile past Week ending Saturday as ; follows : i Horses —At their yards to-day an average number were entered for side. Between 50 and 60 passed under the hammer. They report a very dull demand and but little competition for the various Jots. Prices realised were from £2O to £26 for good draughts, and £l6 to £l9 for medium sorts. They to-day sold two entires, The Teller and a three-year-old colt, both by Young Banker, _ dam Ball. The former horse brought £32 and the colt £2B, both being ve.y cheap, and were secured by a buyer for the Sydney market. Sheep—They have little to report on the market during the week for store sheep, no transactions of importance having occurred. Privately they placed a line of about 500 crossbred ewes at a satisfactory figure. Eat sheep—Prime mutton may be quoted at fully 2£d per Ib, at which quotation they have pieced several lots. Cattle —Store cattle f"e at_ present a great drug in the market, and it seems to be almost impossible to sell them at anything like fair values. They have no transactions during the week to report. Pat cattle—Prime quality beef is worth about 17s 6d per lOOlbs. TIMARU GRAIN MARKETS. Mr W. Evans reports prices of grain bought from farmers, delivered in hacks and drays at Timaru as follows : —Prime mi 'ing wheat, 3s to 3s Id ; inferior, 2s 6d to 3s ; fowl wheat, Is 6d to 2s ; short millidg oats, 2s to 2b Id ; long feed (Danish and Tartarian), Is 7d to Is lOd ; malting barley, 3s 3d to 3s 9d ; inferior and feed, 2s to 3s, bags 7d each ; rye grass seed, 2s 6d to 3s ; potatoes, 35a to 40s per ton (bags included). Messrs Jonas and Bour-i report:— Grain—Wheat is more freely offering, but sellers are inclined to hold for a rise, the prosp- *ts of which, in view of low prices and abundant supply in the Home markets, are somewhat remote. 3s may be considered top rate for average samples. Oats : good milling short oats are firm at Islodto 2s, but k.s much as 2s o|l has been paid for a good line for immediate delivery tor shipment. Discolored samples are plentiful, and sell at la 8d to Is lOd for feed. Barley : No good samples in the market, and no sale for inferior. Grass seed : The market quiet, at last week’s rates. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Adelaide, May, 16. Wheat remains at 4s per bushel. The market is quiet, and quotations are nominal. Flour Town brands have advanced to £9 17s 6d per ton ; country ditto, is quoted at £8 5s to £8 10s. Sxdney May 16. New Zealand wheat is quoted at, per bushel, 3s 9d ; New Zealand oats, 2s 9d ; maize, 5s 3d. Sugar Company’s No. 1 pieces, per ton, £34. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, May 16. Colonial broadstuffs ex store —Adelaida wheat. 41s ; Adelaide flour, 28s; New Zealand wheat, 35s to 40s. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,030,000 quarters. Tallow—Average Australian beef, 36s ; mutton, 395. Wool—At to-day’s auction 10,400 bales were cai'’ogued. The selection was a poor one. Leather—Best sides Australian, I. Mutton—Prime New Zealand is realising 52 d per lb. May 17. Arriv 1 cargoes of wheat have been sold at Aom 40s to 41s. Good gr r asy merino wool has improved in price, but finest is unaltered. Crossbred is firm, but faudy, and superior woyls are weaker. One hundred and eighty-three thousand bales have been catalogued, and 14,700 withdrawn.
