A man, ; name unknown, engaged by Henry, the landlord of the Lichfield ' Hotel, Auckland, was drowned while driving across a creek between Lichfield . and Waton. The buggy and horses were | f found stucK in the creek, but there were no tracts of the driver. A boy named Murray, eight years old, has been killed while riding on the trucks by which sand is brought from the Ocean Beach to the reclamation work* at the side of the new railway station in . Dunedin. Afgumjdigger named Hugh McCulloch, . made an unsuccessful attempt to commit euioidt at TokaToka, Auckland, by hanging. A young woman named Stratford is missing from her home at Belmont, Wellington. She went in search of some < cows, and did not return. Search parties have been out for a couple of day* without success. Mr Smnil, a member of a firm of engineers, Gisborne, has bad his leg completely smashed by an engine falling on it Daniel Meehan, a shoemaker, attempted suicide at Marton, on Wednesday afternoon, by taking oxalic acid. An emetic having been administered, his life was saved. He had been drinking heavily for some days past. Information was given to the Rakaia police last Thursday night that a man had died suddenly at Mr Angus Murray s farm at Urral, five men also being ill. It is supposed that it is a case of poisoning.
