Sydney, May 9. Beach', who refused to row against Hanlan on the Nepean, has now publicly notified his readiness to meet the Canadian oarsman on the Paramatta river within two months. The New South Wales Government have decided to take steps to recover the amount due to the public account by the Oriental Bank. Melbourne, May 9. It has transpired that the Oriental Bank is indebted to the Victorian Government for £195,000 on loan account, £135,000 on fixed deposit, £14,100 on current account, and £30,000 on drafts. Mr Service, the Premier, has written to the Associated Banks, contending that they are all jointly liable for any deficiency in the public account that may arise by failure of the Oriental Bank, No reply to Mr Service's letter has yet been returned.
