Annual Licensing Meeting. The anmmi meeting of the Geraldine Licensing Committee takes place on the 6th June. News by the Mail.—A quantity of news by the mail, which arrived, in Auckland on Sunday night, will be found on our fourth page. ' Masonic. The regular meeting of the members of Lodge Southern Star, 619, S.C. Geraldine, takes place this evening at half past seven o’clock. Address to Electors. — Mr Nicholson senr., one ef the candidates for election to the Temuka Road Board publishes, elsewhere an address to the electors. The address speaks for itself. Temuka School Committee. The monthly meeting of the Temuka School Committee took place on Tuesday evening last. A report of the proceedings will be found on our first page. The Native Reserve.—ln another column appears a notification signed by a number of Natives having an interest in the Arowhenua Reserve, to the effect that the reserve is not to he re-leased without their consent. Sale at Winchester. Messrs Miles and Co., instructed by W. U. Slack, Esq., will hold a sale of fat sheep, draught horses, fat and pedigree cattle, d.f. ploughs, harrows, rollers, harness, &c., &c., at Winchester tomorrow. ■ Anniversary Tea and Concert.—The anniversary tea and concert in connection with the Temuka Wesleyan Church takes place on Wednesday, the 4th June, in the Volunteer Hall. It is to be hoped it will prove a great success. Important Sale. —Messrs J. Mundell and Co., will hold a sale to day, on the homestead of Mr Thomas Blair, Scotsburn, near Peel Forest, of sheep, cattle, horses, pigs, drays, harness, stacks of grass hay and oats, farm implements, &c. Full particulars will bo found in advtisement. Fatal Accident. —Jas, Wools, the driver of a truck on the Masterton Railway Works, slipped while detaching his horse yesterday morning, and the loaded truck passed over his arm and thigh. He died from the shock within half an hour. He arrived from the South Is'and in February last, and was a young man and single. Ejecting a Bailiff.—At the R.M. Court Titnarn, on Tuesday, a man named F. J. Noble and his servant, Jeffries, wese each fined £5 and costs for ejecting a bailiff from the promises of the foremer. The bailiff alleged that the accused used unnecessary violence, dragging him over some barbed wire. This they denied.

Timaru Haeeoue Board. —The monthly meeting of the Timaru Harbour Board takes place to-day. Road Board Election. —The poll for Meeting two parsons to seats on the Temuka Road B oard takes place to morrow. The candidates are Messrs J. T. M, Hayhursb, Henry Nicholson, senr., Michael Quinn, Robert Smith, William R. Uprichard, and John Albert Young, The polling places are The Road Boad office, Temuka ; the schoolrooms, at Waitohi and Rangitata Island. The lime of polling is between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Unlawfully Prospecting. —The Maoris in the Upper Wanganui district have arrested two Europeans named Barry and McDonnel, who were prospecting for gold on Native Lands. The prisoners have been sent by the Natives on to Alexandria, and the Hon. Mr Bryce is considering whether to prosecute them for unlawful prospecting. A later telegram from Wellington states that the Native Minister has decided not to prosecute the gold prospectors, as it seems they were not aware they were breaking the law, though they really rendered themselves liable to be fined £SO each for prospecting on Native Land the title to which had not been determined. Football. —At a meeting held in the Wallingford Hotel last evening, Mr Murray in the chair, a Football Club was formed. The following were elected President, Mr S. D. Barker; Captain, Mr Haynes; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr Gurr; Committeaj Messrs Murray, Haynas, Ogiivie, B. H. Smith, Gurr, Greenwood, Heap and Wood. Match Committee, Messrs Heap, Wood, Ogiivie and the Captain ex officio. The Rugby Union rules were adopted ; the colors to be black and white. The subscription fee was fixed at ss, which was paid at once by all present. Mr Heap was instrueted to get poles and flags, and put the ground in proper order. A scratch match will be held next Saturday, when play will commence at 3 o’clock. Accident at Southbridge. A »»d accident (says the Press) occurred at Southbridge on Tuesday morning to a young man named Thomas Ford. It appears he was’driving a set of disc harrows on Mr P. O’Boyle’s farm on Bealey’s Estate. When going over some very rough ground he was thrown from his seat in front of them. Ho received terrible injuries to his legs. The right leg was cut and torn from the ankle to almost the knee, and the bone shattered ; the other leg being also cut badly. Being by himself in the paddock, he lay in this state for over two hours, when he managed to attract the attention of a little boy, who got assistance at once from Southbridge ; and the harrows, which the whole time were embedded in his legs, were removed, and he was taken to Sutherland’s Hotel, where Ur Gossett attended to him.
