The Merchant Shipping and Underwriters’ Association report the arrival of the ships Westland, from Wellington ; Ada Melmore, from Lyttelton ; and AnUres, from Auckland. ‘May 5. Her Majesty the Queen will return to England from Darmstadt on Tuesday next. It is announced that Michael Davitt,.. the Irish Nationalist agitator, has decided to leave the United Kingdom anclsettla in Australia. May 6. A report has reached here that the Grand Duke Ludwig, of Hesse, widower of the late Princess Alice, of Great Britain, has married the divorced wife of a former Secretary to the Russian Legation at Darmstadt. Paris, May 5. Diplomatic relation between France and Morocco, which have been somewhat strained on several occasions since the Tunisian war, hare now sustained a complete rupture, and the French Government has recalled its Minister from Tangiers. Hong Kong, May 5. The latest intelligence from Pekin states that that city is now in a state of peace, no disturbance or anti-foreign demonstration having occurred for some time past. Preparations for the defence of the city, and the augmentation and improvement of the Imperial army, however, are being made continuously, and fortifications in the neighborhood are being rapidly pushed forward. AUSTRALIAN CABLE. Sydney, May 5. The doors of the local branch of the Oriental Bank closed this morning, and considerabfe anxiety prevails. The Corporation’s liability is £450,000 on note circulation in this colony, a debt of about £114,C09 to other Banks being the other business in Sydney. May 6. Intelligence lias been received that the steamer India, bound from Newto Lyttelton, has foundered at sea. The crew were saved. Melbourne, May 5. It has transpired that the Victorian Government has £150,000 on deposit with the Oriental Bank. The Associated Banks hare decided not to cash the notes of the Oriental Bank Corporation that are in circulation in the colony. A petition has been lodged in the Supreme Court of Victoria, for the winding up of the Oriental Bank Corporation. May 6, It has now been transpired, in connection with Captain Lockycar, of the steamship Adelaide, that he has delivered up his mate’s certificate, and shipped at Adelaide as purser, but reilly to act as commander, It has been ascertained that the Oriental Bank Corporation is indebted to the Associated Banks of this colony to the amount of £50,000, of which £34,000 is covered by securities. R. R. Fletcher, late mining manager at Sandhurst, who was committed for trial on March 18th on several charges of embezzlement was acquitted to-day on'the first, charge. The hearing of the remaining charges is still proceeding.
